“I Love Okra”

I received this poem in response to "Okra & Pears." I'm posting it here courtesy of Raindust.

Oh yeah I love Okra, (Raindust)

I'm reading the recipe, makes me hungry as I look,
I wanted to dash out to the market and buy some to cook,
i love okra

In India they cut it into little matchsticks and fry it,
From the very beginning i really wanted to try it,
i love okra

Some go to the trouble to coat it in egg, spice and flour
Deep fry it crispy like chips and give it a salty shower,
i love okra

I am so glad others get creative and enjoy it too,
Raindust thinks it is a great green veggie to chew…
i love okra

Several poems by Raindust appear on The Ghazal Page. Here's an example.

Okra & Pears

Last week, a friend gave me a bag of fresh, home-grown okra. Another friend gave us a peck of pears, also home grown. I love both pears and okra and put them together for lunch. The following mixture went over rice:

  • one pear cut into chunks
  • one okra pod sliced thin
  • a cup of frozen green peas
  • two green onions sliced
  • two cloves of garlic chopped

That went into an iron skillet with olive oil; salt, tarragon vinegar, tarragon flakes, and black pepper joined the party. Once the mixture was hot, it went over some whole-grain rice, and it tasted mighty nice!

Oh: it served one.
